Coastal Bermudagrass Rotations for Control of Root-knot Nematodes:.

چکیده
The use of 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) and e thy lene d ib romide (EDB) as soil fumigants to control nematodes has been banned. Other nematicides are more expensive and often less effective than DBCP and EDB and may experience a similar fate. A renewed interest in biological control o f nematodes will surely follow. Among root-knot nematode-resistant crops that may be used in rotation with susceptible crops are the perennial ber• mudagrasses (Cynodon dactylon L.) 'Coastal' and 'Coastcross-1 '. Coastal bermudagrass sod turned 25-30 cm deep with a moldboard plow recovers slowly enough that many annual crops can be grown with little competition from the grass. When such crops are harvested, Coastal will quickly form a sod without replanting; it can recover fertilizer not used by the annual crops and produce hay for which there is usually a good market. Coastal bermuda will provide excellent erosion control on slopes that should not be cropped with annuals. Herbicides, such as N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine (glyphosate), can be used to suppress or destroy Coastal should this be required. Results of research and experience supporting the use of Coastal bermudagrass as a rotation crop for the control of rootknot nematodes are summarized here.

The efficacy of fallow and coastal bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) as a rotation crop for control of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita race 1) and soilborne fungi in okra (Hibiscus esculentus cv. Emerald), squash (Cucurbita pepo cv. Dixie Hybrid), and sweet corn (Zea mays cv. Merit) was evaluated in a 3-year field trial. Numbers of M. incognita in the soil and root-gall indices were gre...

The efficacy of coastal bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) as a rotation crop for controt of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne arenaria) in 'Florunner' peanut (Arachis hypogoea) was evaluated in a 3-year field trial. Coastal bermudagrass-peanut rotation (CBP) was compared with peanut monoculture without nematicide (P - ) and peanut monoculture with aldicarb (P + ). The performance of CBP was also co...

Root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp., are one of the important plant parasitic nematodes of tomato in the world. The most suitable control method of plant parasitic nematodes is the use of resistance sources and tolerant cultivars. In the earlier studies, the results showed thatonly 2% (19 out of 537 varieties) were resistant and tolerant to the root knot nematodes. In the supplementary studie...

The efficacy of clean fallow, bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon) as a rotational crop, and fenamiphos for control of root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita race 1) and soilborne fungi in okra (Hibiscus esculentus), snapbean (Phaseolus vulgaris), and pepper (Capsicum annuum) production was evaluated in field tests from 1993 to 1995. Numbers of M. incognita in the soil and root-gall indices were ...

The Nematodes are roundworms that are found in every environment of the earth. While some species are harmful parasites, others play a vital role in nutrient cycle and medical research. Nematode infestation in the fields is poly-specific; however, depending on the agro-climatic conditions, one or two species are dominant over the rest. The present studies attempts to observe and control the roo...
